One
Competitor's Cage:
We try to shop our competitors periodically,
just to see what's out there, and to make sure our prices are
competitive. Sometime we are pleasantly surprised by the
quality, sometimes we are disappointed.
In this case, we
found a special for $139.00. The fittings were designed for 3/4" thin wall conduit. The frame
swayed from front to back every time we hit a golf ball into
it, but it did seem strong enough for indoor use.
The nylon rope wasn't attached to the netting, it was simply
woven in and out through the net meshes. This caused the rope
to separate from the netting and it pulled out like a shoe
string. There was no impact panel. The netting was suppose to be
black, and UV treated. It was neither. The one we got was
white. There didn't appear to be any bonding present on the
netting. The entire net (not counting the fittings) weighed
only 5lbs - less than one third what our medium duty cage
weighs!!
The netting was soft and loosely woven, so after about 100
shots some balls were blowing through the back panel. IMPORTANT: We have
also found some pretty good equipment out there, and we don't
think this experience was typical. But it does drive home the
point: When you shop for a golf cage, be sure to compare
apples to apples. |
